Or just plain Photoshop. I have been saving them in jpg, but it does not seem to work. Any guidelines?

What do you mean by "texture surfaces"? In Photoshop, one of my favorite methods of creating a textured surface for any graphic is to use the Render Lighting Effect filter and the texture channel option at the bottom of the pop-up panel. Sometimes, adding noise prior to this stage can significantly alter the characteristics of the texture.

Of course, there's the texture option under the Bevel/Emboss layer effect too.

That's cool, but I want to put textures on things like in Alien Skin's Splat! I want that brushed steel look. I want to be able to make my own textures to use.

Right, but that's only if you want to stay out of most everyone's killfilter.

I was going to go blonde, but my stylist talked me out of it. Eh. I'm still jealous.

A brushed steel look can be made by adding monochromatic noise and motion blur to a silvery gray image. I created one for a console for a Flash movie. The movie wasn't intended for the web so I didn't add a preload feature, so bandwidth may be a factor in your viewing pleasure. But click on "Flash Promo". below Contact Information on the left. The console was made in Photoshop, the movie in Flash, the site in Dreamweaver.
