printing your own 35mm slides?

hello has anyone got any info on printing your own 35mm slides? i want to make some on my pc and print them to transparency paper

they will have text on them as well as some form of image.

is there a tutorial out there? or a template for word or whatever i need to use?

You probably won't be happy with the results. The resolution of inkjet printers is not great enough to produce sharp 35mm slides. If you want to try it just get some inkjet transparency material that matches your printer brand. 35mm Slides have an image area of 24x36mm (approx) you need to place that on a 35x36mm area to allow for mounting.
A better approach might be to print out your file on a letter sized piece of glossy paper and then photograph it with a 35mm camera. You may get better results.
Finally, you can prepare the files digitally and take them to a photofinisher that will make slides from them for you.

As Robert said, the resolution of an inkjet printer is not good enough to print 35mm slides. If you are in the UK you could have slides made from your files at this place: http://www.micro-quiz.co.uk/ . I've used them and been happy with the results, good quality and good price.

The product that does this is called a "film recorder." They're not real popular in the US, but in Japan they do pretty well. Basically it's a big box with a CRT or CRT-workalike (TFT,etc) inside that displays the image pixels. On the front is a mount for a camera; you can get mounts for all sorts of weirdo cameras, but a 35mm is common. Anyway, when you "print" the film is exposed and you get your slide (or negative or 4x4 or whatever).

I worked at Polaroid and these did well for use in Japan, mostly for creating slides. I helped out with the software occasionally even though this wasn't my dept. AFAIK they always made money (which made them unique at that company). A weird niche, but an active one.

I'd expect you could find one pretty cheap since they're really sorta obsolescent. They used to go for like 10k and up.

Most commercial photo labs in the US still use film recorders, though they are probably going the way of the do-do, as more presentations go to a laptop and PowerPoint, or similar, than 35mm projection. The machinery can also be used to produce 35mm (or many other sizes of film) negatives from digital images. Because the resolutions offered differ from those of many other types of output, you need to get the instructions on sizing (image size, and resolution) from the lab. They should be happy to provide you with everything that they need, so all they have to do is feed your CD/ZIP/Whatever, into their computer and output each image in a one-step form.

If you ever discover and old copy of Harvard Graphics buy it immediately provided, of course, it is a legit version.

I believe one of the features in HG was to export to slides (now there's an idea for PSCS too! Plugin anyone?)

HG was coded before digital projectors were available quite as much as they are now

I remember the program, but never used it. I did the same thing, however, with the early WordPerfect Presentations, which I used before PowerPoint. Since I haven't done any of that lately, I don't know how M$ and Corel handle the slide output with current vers. Over the last 10 years, the few I've had done were from PS images and sized to 35mm at 3050ppi, as I recall. The labs used terminology like rez-4 and rez-6, but I just had them give me the final output size and that's what they got. Last job was probably 8 years ago, but the results were stunning and projected very well at an ASMP portfolio show. Since I've not needed this service lately, I don't know who still does it in US, but assume that many pro labs do, even with the computer-based presentations taking over.
