Is it possible to automate actions and save files?

I have 20 files say.
I need to have 3 different sizes of this image saved as 1a.jpg, 1b.jpg, 1c.jpg, 2a.jpg, 2b.jpg, 2c.jpg etc.

I've been told that this is possible with ImageReady.

But... the problem is... that there needs to be some scripting to give the names of the files??

I'm note sure where to start.

Any help would be appreciated.
