JPEG display problems in browser

My 3rd grade pic. When I load this page in Internet Explorer or Netscape, there are doubled features (chins, eyes) that shouldn't be there.

When I save it to the hard drive and view it, it is displayed correctly without those problems.

With Internet explorer, the picture is viewed at correct size (no prompt in the bottom right to enlarge).

Why does this happen? Can I fix it? Does the JPEG have incorrect settings? Or is this just a problem displaying large JPEGs in IE?

Most noticable with Brandon, Amy Z, Nathaniel. Paul W has an extra piece of hair that shouldn't be there. Thanks.

This isn't a PS question, but the picture is fine in Firefox. There is code you apparently should have removed.

Let me download Firefox and see how it does. Thanks. The doubled features aren't terrible, but enough to be very annoying.

About the "remove code", that's Geocities advertising code that should be removed if the file has to be edited or put on another URL.

I used Photoshop to process these images and have been receiving a lot of help with Photoshop image editing strategy for this project here, so I thought it was fair enough to ask the question here. At least I'd thought I'd receive the quickest answer here.

Still there with Firefox. Not there when I view it offline. It still looks good, but not perfect like it does offline. The eyes look funny in the bottom row and Paul W has an extra piece of hair up top that shouldn't be there. And Amy Z just doesn't look right. I've been looking at this photo for over 20 years, so I spot it easily. I used the program JPEG Crop on this for lossless cropping. I'm guessing that's what did it. I'll just live with it. Thanks.

Sounds like a scaling problem. Try opening the properties for your desktop, go to Settings | Advanced and check your DPI settings. If they are not 96 DPI, try changing to that and see if it fixes your problem. --

In the 3rd grade picture, you are resizing the image in HTML. The height and width attributes in your HTML markup are different from the actual pixel size of the image. Browsers are terrible at resizing images and if you need the image resized you should do it to the original, not in HTML.

The 6th grade photo uses height/width values in the HTML that match the actual size of the photo. Thus, no resizing by the browser and no distortion.

Yes, that is correct.

Examine the HTML code for the page. The HTML code is wrong. In your HTML code, your IMG tag looks like this:

img style="width: 796px; height: 523px;" alt="3" src="grade3-jpeg.jpg"

But your image is not 796 pixels by 523 pixels! Your image is 774 pixels by 503 pixels. You put the wrong size in your IMG tag.

Change your IMG tag to look like this:

img style="width: 774px; height: 503px;" alt="3" src="grade3-jpeg.jpg"

When you place images on an HTML page, you must be very careful to make sure that the IMG tag exactly matches the actual size of the image. If you do not, the image will look bad.

Irrespective of the scaling problem, which has been solved by others, the picture has a red/yellow cast which can and should be removed, unless the retro appearance is intended.

You can omit the height/width entirely. No problem.
