Ah, I guess my overriding question is — this may seem stupid, but how do you save a transparent image to presently smoothly/cleanly on the web… or is that possible? If I have an imagine that you can "see thru" 60%, is there anyway to save it to retain those properties in any file format for common publication on the Web, so others see it the same way?
No. GIF transparency is "all or nothing," and the most common PC Web browsers do not support PNG transparency (thank you, Microsoft!).
I thought GIF89 was the answer to how one should save these kinds of images, but not 100% sure and my results are not good so far. 🙁
If the image is going over a solid color Web background, you use Save for Web, then set the "matte color" to the color of the Web page background.
If the image is not going over a solid color background, then you solve this problem by re-thinking your Web page layout and redesigning the Web page.
