Can't edit TIFF

I scanned a black and white document to to TIFF Group 4.

PS can open it and display it but I can't edit it.
Do I need to convert it first? If so, then how?

Photoshop can edit your TIFF just fine. However, most likely you scanned it as a bitmap. many of Photoshop's tools and commands are not available for bitmaps.

Go to the Image menu and look at Mode. If the image mode is Bitmap, change it to Grayscale.

Did you scan it as 16 bit or 8 bit. If it is 16 bit, you may have trouble using some tools to edit it. Check the box under Image>>Mode and see if the option to convert to 8 bit is available or grayed out. If it is available, click it and it will convert it to 8 bit. You can now edit it as normal. HTH

thank you for helping, but i don't think bitmap is the problem. there are a lot of image program out there can do the job. i think we need tiff viewer to edit tiff vb.net. it is a good method i believe.
