draw from center

Is there a way of telling the ellipse tool to draw from the center?

Sometimes it is difficult to get the selection around an object in the middle of the page, because as you pull away the whole ellipse moves in the direction you are moving.

I would like to put the point in the middle of the object and pull away from it and have the ellipse expand equi-distance from the center. I know other programs do this, but I can't find anything that says that Photoshop can.

I knew it was possible. I had used it with other graphics program and just couldn't find it in my manual and I was talking to someone who teaches it, but didn't know how, either.

I also found that you you can select the whole image by doing a ctrl-A, just like a normal select all. I had been trying to use the selection tool to do that. I assumed you couldn't do it, since I didn't see any " select all" in the menus.

Not tried it that way.Ah, I see what it does now. If you want to select pixels in a layer, you can control-click the layer in the layer tool box. This is handy as it'll 'clean' rogue pixels (control click the layer, invert the selection and hit del).

And if you want to move the selection center a bit while drawing it, just press the spacebar and see the pointer turn to a hand and drag to your liking. And of course if you want your selection to be perfectly round or square press shift while drawing the ellipse or oblong shape. Pjotr

You can use Select>Transform Selection and then type in amounts for width and height. Is that what you want? When you have the Transform selection in place you can use the sliders next to each option by clicking next to the numbers in the options bar.
