Does anyonw have this combo working, or is this incompatible? The error message when I try to open:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program …(location)
abnormal program termination

I’ve already uninstalled / reinstalled 2x.

My photoshop 5.5 was working fine on windows ME, but I upgraded to XP, and that’s when the problem started.

Upgraded how? XP needs to be installed clean to a formatted drive. If you installed it on top of an existing ME installation, you should consider backing up all of you data and doing a clean install.

While it will take you some time, you’ll save a lot of time and headaches in the long run.

If you did do a clean install come on back and we’ll see if someone can’t help you out.

upgrading to xp can lead to all kinds of problems like this in many apps. you’re best bet now is to backup your data, format and reinstall xp on a clean, fresh partition.

Hmmm, why didn’t I think of that? <VBG>

Thanks, but I already did that — formatted my c drive completely, and did a clean install of XP.

if xp is the only os (that’s ever been) on the drive, pop in the disk and rerun setup. it’ll restore anything that got corrupted. make sure you reinstall any windowsupdates as well. the benifit here is you won’t need to reinstall all your applications like you would from a fresh install.

Problem fixed –
Went to Program Compatibility Wizard and changed the settings to Windows ME (for photoshop only) and it works !!!
Thank you for all suggestions.

I would suggest an upgrade to 7, though. An amazing change. 🙂
