help! Pen tool!

Hi, guys,
I cannot use my toolpen to draw anything at all. I am pretty sure layers and paths are not locked! And I tried to turn off smart guide, it still doesn't work! Plese please tell me how to fix it!!

OK, from the beginning: what ver PS? What OS? Any Mode data that we should know of? Has it worked in the past?

Since the Pen Tool draws a Path, it should be immaterial what Layer you are on, until/unless you Fill/Stroke the Path created.

Do you have the Paths palette open? Window>Paths will open it. If so, you should see the Work Path formed, both in the palette and on the screen.
