I am new to Photoshop! I need to create shapes with creative designs and then import them into Powerpoint to enhance current presentations. When I bring the shape (file) into Powerpoint, the file is square and has a white background. How can I save the file with the shape only or have a transparent background?

Thanks!!!

Make sure your shape is on a transparent background in Photoshop. Use Save For Web and choose PNG-24 as the file type. Powerpoint will respect the transparency in the PNG file.

Well, in Photoshop, you can save the shapes out as any number of formats that support transparency, like .gif or .png, for instance. There are others, but I’m not sure Powerpoint supports transparency with them. Tony explained it a little more.

Or, you could export the shapes to Illustrator and save as a .wmf from there.

Or, if you’re feeling lucky, you can choose a specific color in an image to be transparent directly in Powerpoint. On the image toolbar that pops up when you insert an image, there is a button that says "Choose Transparent color" or something like that. Click that, and then click on the background color(white) that you want transparent. It works ok as a last resort or a quick fix.
