No, it’s just that this isn’t a Irfanview newsgroup.

I have no problems saving icons with trans bg’s in Irfanview.

The README has more details. ICO files have a 1-bit transparency mask and may also have an 8-bit alpha channel (32-bit "XP-style" icons).

The plugin derives the 1-bit transparency mask in 3 possible ways: – from layer transparency when creating an RGB+alpha (32-bit) icon – from transparent palette index when creating an Indexed mode icon – from an alpha channel (black=opaque, white=transparent)

Also try opening someone else’s favicon.ico with transparency and you’ll see the alpha channel representing the mask.

That was a good idea.
I do not believe I did not think of that.
