I couldn’t find anything in help on creating an icon (.ico) type file. Surely ? one can with photoshop ? If someone knows how please let me know. Even windows paint will open a .ico type file

Really? My version of Paint won’t open a .ico file.

Anyway, you might try the ICO format plugin

Give this a try http://www.axialis.com/iconworkshop/index.html the pro version installs a Photoshop plug-in that lets you export any Photoshop file with transparency directly into Icon Workshop….

Paint 5.1 came with XP Home ed.
