I have had a scary experience with trying to save a 16 bit file as an LZW TIFF. When I tried to do this (two different times), Photoshop simply closed instantly and went away on my screen. When I reopen PhotoShop, it works fine until I open up the folder which contains the saved 16 bit file as LZW TIFF and then Photoshop instantly closes again. If I don’t open the folder with that particular file, PhotoShop works fine. I have found the only way to get rid of the problem is to delete the offending file. I have no problem if I save it as a regular TIFF or as an 8-bit LZW TIFF. Anybody heard of this problem or can you duplicate it?

Not using CS, so can’t comment on this bizarre behavior.

Thing I wanted to mention is that LZW is really not suitable for 16bit images, period. It will often make them LARGER file size than uncompressed.

Thank you Mac! You just explained why I have been seeing files jump in size by 20-35 meg.
