3D effect help...

Hi,

I have a "working logo" here:

It's a few jigsaw pieces; what I want to do is to give it some 3D effects (like drop-shadow and emboss), but when I try to adjust the layer properties, it acts on the whole image (effectively embossing the white areas)...

How can I give some "relief" to the actual jigsaw pieces?

You need to put the puzzle pieces on a new layer. Select the white area, then select the inverse and copy it onto a new layer.

Make sure that you aren't on the background layer, then make the white areas transparent. That should work, but I haven't tried it.

it really all depends on how your PSD file is set up. are the puzzle pieces on their own each transparant layer? or are all the puzzle pieces on one layer? and is the layer truly tranparant? If you use the blending mode in the STYLES menu to make a transpancy it really isnt transparant and applies the drop shadow and bevel & emboss to the whole layer (even the seemingly transparent parts)...

Select the color of each piece, and copy/cut to new layer. Apply the layer effect to one. Drag the effect to each other layer. You really might want to fill in the color evenly because it appears that you have 'pock' marks in the color.
