Transparency not appearing transparent

Hi,

This is probably a silly mistake, but I'm new to this and would appreciate a little help.

I load a picture into PShop 7 and select a path. I drag this into a new image (thus creating a plain white background). In layers I 'de-select' the eye on the background layer making it transparent. I then save as a Tiff with save transparency selected.

For some reason when i try an import the image in to another bit of software (eg. Publisher) to create a flyer with fancy background, rather than having a transparent background It appears black.

A friend of mine follows exactly the same procedure but without any problems. I can only assume that the problem lies with something I have perhaps altered in the settings.

Many thanks in advance.

You'll need to create a clipping path for transparency to work with any pagelayout program with the exception of InDesign.

Jonesy,

Transparency support is something 'supplied' by the receiving application. I very much doubt that Publisher supports layered TIFF's properly (very few applications do), any more than it supports native .PSD's

As Bob says, you will need to create a clipping path and save as either a clipped TIFF (if Publisher supports clipped tiffs - again very few applications do) or a clipped EPS - but then you will need to output to a PostScript printer.

MS Word and PowerPoint both support TIFF with transparency, although neither do feathered edges very nicely.

I've never really used Publisher, but fired it up just to test, and it doesn't seem to.
Go figure, the app where you'd most likely NEED it, and it doesn't work. That's MS for ya.

All these version 2000, btw.

Thanks for all your help guys.

A colleague of mine can do it in Publisher (2002 i think). I'll go for the clipping path!
