crashing when editing selections

Lately I’ve been trying to make an interface for a new website, which is near impossible without my selection tool working fully.
I dont know what started this but in the past 2 days my pc has started crashing when I use the selection tool when I subtract, add, expand the selection. The thing that confuses me is that it doesnt do it all the time… so I dont know why its doing it, just only happens when I’m using the selection tool in someway

someone shed some light on this problem?

Usually the first thing to try when PS goes weird: reset prefs [see FAQ].
