Disable Adobe Photo Downloader

This may be the wrong venue. If so, I apologize.

Every time I start to download my camera the "Adobe Photo Downloader" screen pops up automatically and tries to help. I don't want it because I already have a asystem that I use and I am used to it. How can I disable it? I am using Photoshop 3.

So that you don't get silly answers to a sensible question I guess you mean Elements 3, not PS3

Yes, you are correct. I was so intent on getting the version correct I got the name wrong. It is "Elements".

Adobe Pr back again. Wait to they bring out Version 5 and they will resply to posts saying get rid of 4 it's hopeless. And so it goes on

Open Elements 3.0, go to Edit>preferences> organize and share. This will put you in Elements Organizer preferences. Then select Camera or Card Reader and uncheck the use Adobe Photo Downloader in the import section. Click on Ok and you should be in business.

When I follow the instructions given by Jimmy, I end up in a kind of round robin with a message saying, "There was a problem opening the catalog named 'My Catalog"'. When I follow the fixit for that problem I get in the same circle again ad nauseam. Any suggestions?

When you open the Editor in Elements 3, do you find a Photo Browser button up near the top? If this doesn't open the Organizer (My Catalog), you may need to repair or uninstall/reinstall the program. Sounds like the Catalog is missing or corrupted. The default location for the catalog can be found in C:\documents and settings\all user.windows\application data\adobe. As doc and settings is hidden, you may need to first go into my computer>tools>folder options, then change the settings to allow all files/folders to be viewed.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS Elements 3. I found the browser button of which you spoke and when I tried to use that it gave me the same message - may be open, files missing, out of date or damaged, etc. It gives me the option to repair and says it is successful but it really is not. We then end up going around in circles ad infinitum. I found "My Catalog.psa" which is a PSA File of 292kb. Now, what? I have taken PSE 3 off my computer. I don't want the download to come on. I have more than enough confusion with some other photo programs trying to be helpful.

I checked as you suggested under Windows Explorer and under Program Files/Adobe there were three folders named Photoshop Elements, Photoshop Elements 2 and Photoshop Elements 3. I deleted them all and will try this again in the morning. Thanks for your help.

Eureka! I manually removed all the old files and reinstalled PSE3. I did as you said and that should fix the problem. Unfortunately, I can't test it now because I loaned my camera out for a week. Thanks for your help. "Jimmy" wrote in message
