CS - Unable to open .jp2 files

1500 views6 repliesLast post: 2/11/2004
Hi all,

I've some JPEG2000 images that CS won't load.

When I try to open it, I get the following error:

"Could not complete your request because of a problem with the file-format module interface"

I've installed the JPEG2000.8bi from the CS CD, but nothing to do

There are some other plugin to use to load JPEG2000 files ?

Thanks in advance for any help

I've been opening JP2 images with the everhandy IrfanView http://www.irfanview.com/
I use this program for a LOT of tasks. You can also convert to JPG from JP2 with this tool.

I spoke too quickly. Go to the Adobe User to User forum. There's a thread there under Request for Features that answers this. There are additional plug-ins that need to be manually installed for PSCS to read the JP2 format. I located the additional plug-in on my install disk and added it. Works nicely.

Now about the Filter Factory . . .

Where did these JP2 files come from?

(most likely there is a problem with the files)

JP2 is a file extension used by JPEG2000 files. I don't know the details, but apparently it is a different JPEG standard than the usual JPG file. I got one from a newsgroup that specializes in created digital art. I was finally able to install the required extras in PSCS and I can now use this format. Previously, I was viewing them with IrfanView.

Thank Chris,
I'm sure the files are Ok (not corrupted). They was made using a GIS program called ARCMap. I've sent a message to the author for more information.

Corel Photo-Paint as of v11 will open a .jp2 file. Quite good at it too.

There is also a 3rd party gift-to-the-world Jpeg200 filter at www.fnordware.com
