ICC profiles

Hi,

I'ver the following problem:

1. I scanned my slides as tif which have the "Nikon x.x" ICC profile included
2. than I saved this files "as copy" + uncompressed tif with the option "no icc profile included"

when I opened this second file (no icc) again it looks completley different than the original.

How can I now get back the original look? Assigning "Nikon x.x" and re-open again does not do this job - so does not conversion to "Nikon
x.x".

What am I doing wrong?

Saving them with no profile is what you are doing wrong. Why do you do that? If you want to change the color space, that is what you should do: change to color space. You can do so by choosing "Convert to profile...".

Bernd,

For your new images, embed the nikon profile. For your older images, use "Assign Profile", which should immediately give your images the correct appearance, before resaving as tiff again. If it does not, look around for a different version of the Nikon profile. You may have multiple versions on your system.

Although I generally advocate capturing in highest quality jpeg, in this case it is fortunate that you saved as tiff, so there will be no loss of image quality as you make this change.

"Convert to Profile" will not work because it retains the appearance of the image as it was originally opened, which is not what you want. --

OK OK - I used a macro where the option "no icc profile included" was unchecked.....

Saving them with no profile is what you are doing wrong. Why do you do that? If you want to change the color space, that is what you should do: change to color space. You can do so by choosing "Convert to profile...".

Of course, now it's displayed using your working space instead of the Nikon assigned color space.

Reassign the profile you threw away earlier.

Why do you advocate high-quality JPEG?

"Convert to Profile" will not work because it retains the appearance of the image as it was originally opened, which is not what you want.
