Here are my problems,
1.I take pictures screw with them in photoshop save them as 4x6 jpegs put them on my smart media take them to wal-mart (.29cents a print canadian) and get them printed and they come back cropped? The girl there doesnt know why she actually doesnt seem to know much. I guess what I want to know is how do I make sure that what i see is what I get.

2.I wamt to make an image smaller so that if I use my set crop size ie 4in x 6in i can capture more of the image but the crop area stays the same it just shrinks with the picture but still says 4in by 6in.

help!
thanks

1) How are they cropped? Are you losing some off one side/both sides/top and bottom. How big is your image? - Please specify in pixels and what the PPI setting is [all from Image Size dialog].

2) I can't quite follow this one. Setting the crop tool to a particular size can be confusing, as, in effect, it is just constraining the aspect ratio. Maybe you would like to explain more what your problem is. Again before and after image size info would be helpful.

Maybe we should take these one at a time ...

2 - I think this means you want to see more of the image at a given print size - effectively means increase the resolution. Easiest way to do this is to set 6 X 4 inches in the crop tool options bar and leave the resolution blank. Do the crop to whatever you want and the resolution will set itself automatically.

Are you using a Fuji Frontier digital printing service at this Walmart? If you are then you should read this: www.drycreekphoto.com

When I use the Digital Printing @ wal-mart, It always states the Resolution is too high and it messes with the quality, as well as crops the image. I have lowered the resolution, and used the presets for 4x6, 5x7, and 8x10.......I have also asked the employees about this and they can offer no answers......what to do?

First, what are they printing on?

If they are printing on a Fuji Frontier, here are the pixel dimension you need:

4x6 1838x1238 pixels
5x7 2138x1536 pixels
8x10 3038x2436 pixels

The print area will be:

4x6 1800x1200 pixels
5x7 2100x1500 pixels
8x10 3000x2400 pixels

So you have a very narrow bleed all around. And if you file is at 300 ppi, then the image dimensions (in inches) will match the print dimension

If your files are exactly that size then it doesn't matter which of the three print options (fill-in, fit-in or no resize) the techs use, you will get what you want.

Rene,
Thanks for the info.
I have been using the Kodak digital printer......Would those dimensions be the same as the Frontier?

Having never worked with the kodak printers (which one would that beBTW?) I don't know but I would be quite surprised if they are exactly the same.

The info I posted was buried somewhere in the thousands of pages of the Frontier manual...
