Crashing when Erasing

This version like Elements is starting off crashing when using Background Eraser, Change color and Photomerge. I still have Elements installed and it doesn't crash while Erasing or color change but the same file and test in CS causes the blue screen of death then a reboot. I have a Sony laptop, 1Gb Athlon, 512mg of RAM, 20Gb drive 15Gb for C drive and 5Gb for D drive (D drive is my scratch drive and my ram drive is set to C drive "2000". Any help out there ??? be sure and put Photoshop CS in the subject.

Or it could be a real hardware problem - memory, processor. PS can really stress a computer and find existing problems that other software won't notice. Don't know if Elements is as hard on a machine.

Thanks LenHewitt and Mick Murphy, It was a device driver. My laptop auto updates from the Sony site but I needed to reinstall the updates manually after installing Adobe CS. Anyone with a Sony PCG-FXA47 will need to load the chip set and touch pad fix from Sonys site.
