Adobe CS problem

I have been using Adobe CS for several months without any problems. Today when I started it, I received the following message:

"The application has failed to start because I]L15.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem."

I did a reinstall and still have the problem. I have searched the files on another Windows XP Home machine and have not been able to find this file.

Could anybody tell me if there is such a file installed with Adobe CS? Any suggestion on how to get rid of this error message?

Besides the error message, CS appears to still be working.

Did you try repairing the installation instead of reinstalling?

If you have a legit copy of CS I would suggest you go to Adobe's web site and look at their FAQ and also sign up for the Adobe monitored newsgroup that is often answered by the programmers of the program

I don't know of any .dll that would have a ] in the name. You sure you've got the correct name?

what do you have for plugins/filters ?
some use DLLs to do the work - if it can't find the dll at load time it'll error out just as you describe.

i have a problem with a dust and scratch removal plugin just that way - i'v lost the dll but i have everything else - anybody have polariod dust and scratch remover? i'v lost the install file in a disk crash.

I have had the same problem in ID 2.0. I did renamed a file. Try this, I don't know. It might help U...

Open search results window, and select Files and folders. Make sure that U can see hidden files. Search for "InDesign SavedData" (incl. the quotation marks)...
Rename the file to "backup SavedData". Then restart your InDesign...

I think u should try this. And I hope you understand. My english is not perfect (I am from Denmark) :-D

James is probably correct. I once received the same message but it was about a different dll file. The problem was with one of the plugins that I had installed. I reinstalled it and that did away with the problems.

Is it possible that the missing file is *ijl15.dll* rather than 1]L15.DLL? Do you have Nikon View 6 loaded on your system? If so, there is a file by that (ijl15.dll) name that is part of that install which may be causing your problem.

I have a file called ijl15.dll in my "C:\Program Files\Canon\ZoomBrowser EX\Program" camera software directory. You might try searching for your file using L15.DLL and if you find the one with the ] in it you could try renaming it.

I had a similar problem when I first installed CS, but the missing file had a different name, so the solution that fixed my problem may not be the same.

Here is the solution that worked for me, per Adobe in Australia, and perhaps it casts light on what Adobe me when they say that the program may need to be reinstalled..

1. Back up your 3rd party plugins, actions and so on to a safe place.

2. Uninstall CS and delete all the plugin folders and so on.

3. If you still have PS 7 or earlier version installed, uninstall them and delete all folders (again, back up what you need to a safe place.

4. You should now have a computer totally free of Photoshop with any plugins etc backed away in safe places away from the normal libraries.

5. Reboot.

6. Now reinstall Photoshop CS. If it's an upgrade copy, have your previous version disk and serial number on hand.

Thanks everyone. Great to know there is this excellent source of advice available. Indeed the problem was with a plugin. I had updated Neat Image and assumed the new plugin would install on top of the old one. When I deleted the old Neat Image plugin and moved the new plugin associated with Neat Image into the plugin folder, all was well.
