When trying to save jpeg's for web, getting message that unable to comply because assertion failed. What is this? Using Adobe Photoshop 7.0.1 on Windows XP Professional. Any advice is welcome. Thanks!

It's a programmers tool for tracking down where something has gone wrong. It's not a death knell, just an alert.
If you can, ignore it and see if you can continue. One way or another, it might be good to report it as a bug (complete with method used to reproduce) to Adobe.

search the forum. there's a fix for this. something like reset your save for web settings for default. (that might be it. try that first, if that doesn't work THEN search the forum for "save for web assertion failed").

This is the only thing that works for me every time:
Hold Ctrl_Alt and click on Save for Web, it will reset setting for this option.
Someone somewhere else posted that running SpyBot causes this - I do use this and will check it out when I have a mo.
