You might save yourself a lot of work, if you can avoid the moire upfront. It is not always possible to avoid it, but depending on how the image was acquired, there may be possibilities. Prevention is better than cure.
fwiw, i did several medical slide scans (nikon ls-5000) and while they looked clear in daylight, after scanning they all had profound, regular stripes. the pass filter removed them, revealing the underlying detail as if the bands were never there. perhaps it was not moire?

Well, a band-pass filter may be helpful, but Photoshop does not have one. You can kluge a band-pass filter in Photoshop by adding two layers using the high-pass filter, but the quality is poor.
