Smooth Lines in PS CS

I am working on doing some webdesign, and I am at the beginning, looking for how to make those nice smooth lines that make the header and footer part of this website layout:

know that much and i struggle something terrible with the pen tool, so any tips and such, or is there an easier way to go about it
