Help with sending to ILLustrator

URgenT Help needed
I have cut out a logo from a white background in photoshop7 and saved it as a GIF file...bt when i try and bring it into Illustrator its showing as a black object.
What am i doin wrong???

Using Gif for anything but web work.

Tiff or PSD (if you have a recent version of Illustrator).
