Try this. Make a new layer mode overlay, fill 50% grey. Switch over to Quick mask. Gradient fill forground to background and draw a line from about halfway. Switch off quick mask.
You now have a graduated selection you can fill with any colour or effect. Use Paintbucket and tip it with your selected colour and you will have a neat colour to transparent, which can also be adjusted with Sat, Opacity, levels etc etc.

just make it yourself...goto your gradient tool, then click on the thumbnail of the gradient in the toolbar to bring up the gradient editor...now click on the bottom left triangle thing on the gradient bar, and set the color to foreground...then click on the bottom right triangle and set it to foreground as well...now click on the top right triangle and set the transparency to 0%...then click on new and youre done!...if you want then right click on the new thumbnail and change the name to foreground to transparent. hope that helps

I can't figure how you lost just one gradient. You did try reset to default, right? ~Doc

I'm assuming that the Transparency Box on the options bar is checked, as indicated in the above tutorial link because if it's not we have nothing more to talk about. ...Back to resetting the default gradients. Where it shows the active gradient sample on the options bar click the little box with the arrow in it on the right, in the gradient menu that comes up click on the arrow in the circle button on the top right, in that menu click Reset Gradients, next menu click on OK. If it is still missing I'd guess the default file is corrupt and you might consider reinstalling. I should point out the "Default Gradients.grd" file is in a seperate folder than the other gradients.Let me know if any of this works....
