I want to actually print guide lines - please help?

Hi, hoping someone can help me with this one. I need to put 4 4x6cm photos onto 1 print, which I've done using guide lines. The photos need to be cut apart after they've been printed so I'd like to know if there is some tool I can use to make the guide lines visible in the final print as a sort of cutting guide? I've tried going over the lines with the pen tool, but that didn't seem to work. Any ideas? Thanks for any and all help! Lynn

Maybe there are better ways, but what I'd do is add a black border to each of the photos using Edit > stroke, then combine the photos like you're already doing. If you stroke inside the edge the pixel count doesn't change, I'd suggest black either 1 or 2 pixels wide. I do this often when ganging prints for a LightJet printer and it's easy to cut on the lines.

In CS use "print with preview", there is a drop down box that says color management or output, choose OUTPUT, there are setting choices to print crop marks. (you can add a border, print the color bars and files name if you want also)

I have used the stroke/border thing too, but then that layer becomes part of the image.

You're on the right track with the pen tool, but you should understand that a path you create with the pen tool is not made of pixels and does not actually affect your image. To make the pen path visible, use the Stroke Path command. This runs a paintbrush along the pen path, which will draw lines that you will be able to see in your printout.

You will probably want to specify Pencil, when prompted from the Stroke application, or you will get a softer edged line. I'd set the Pencil to ~2pxl and probably establish foreground color as black, or maybe dark blue.

A side note: if you have Guides visible, then transport a PSD to Corel (nee Fractal Design/MetaCreations) Painter, the Guides will become part of the image and will print from Painter. However, I would hardly recommend the purchase of an additional, though great program, just for this - but, if you already HAVE Painter, try it.

Hunt
