A few years ago I looked on ebay for Paint Shop Pro, I was looking for 6 but found someone selling CDs of 7 for $20 plus $3 shipping. I had a list of programs, all around the same price. He used to send me updated emails (with the lists) and had a disclaimer on saying it was legal to have a copy of a program AS A BACKUP and this is how he was selling them.

I am just curious.
I don't know if he's still around, I haven't seen any emails for a long time.
My point, look on ebay. There is also a way they legally sell licensed software if they bundle it with a computer part, so it might say "comes with a computer part of our choice" (a cord, or something) I was once given a link to a place that sells software at half-price if you are a student (or know someone who could get it for you) Don't know how you feel about file sharing, but Shareaza, Kazza_lite, Limewire, etc have them all for free. Make sure it's really a file and not a virus (going by the size of it, and scanning it after it downloads) and should have serial number with it.
Someone on a computer tech help board told me about file sharing one time (the moderator deleted it, but the person sent it to me privately, after) I didn't even know what it was.
The way I feel is, I am a low income person and not making any money with the software (and not copying it to resell) just trying to learn it.
A fair price for PhotoShop might be free (this is the smart-ass remark you asked for ) (LOL)

In article ,Sure was illegal! Even if one was allowed to make a backup copy legally... Selling is not backing up! A backup copy is simply a copy you store in case you damage the original accidentally. You can then use the backup.

It is legal to make a backup copy of software.
It is illegal to sell it. The terms of Adobe's license agreement are quite clear; you may transfer your copy of Photoshop provided you do not keep any copies yourself.
What he was doing is illegal; pretty straightforward, really.

What if you don't have a CD-writer, and the only way to get a backup of your software is to buy a backup for a small fee from a seller? This is why 'backup' copies of many copies of software can be sold without the seller being shut down.
