Millimeters to pixels conversion

Hi all,

Whats the convertion ratio for converting millimeters to pixels. I thought it was 2.8 but this doesn't look right because after I print the graphic its way smaller than what the expected size should be.

That's a little like converting millimeteres to degrees fahrenheit.

Pixels are not a measure of distance.

Are you trying to hit a target resolution?

AP, I may be wrong here but shouldn't pixel size be different depending on the resolution of your computer screen and the image? For instance, on my machine, according to the rulers. To demonstrate, open a new document at a resolution of 100 DPI, turn on the rulers, have the info palette open. Right click on the ruler and select pixels. Drag out 2 guides from the ruler and set them at a certain number pixels. Read what the info says. Right click on the ruler and change it to millimeters and check the info again. Now go to Image>Image Size>Resolution and change it. Make sure that resample image is selected. Now read the info again with pixels ruler selected and millimeter ruler selected.

For printing, it depends on at the DPI is set to. If you go into IMAGE |Image Size, note the "REsolution" setting. This directly affects the final output size of your print, and nothing else.

So if your picture is 200x200 pixels, and the resolution is set to 20 pixels/cm, the image will print at 10x10cm.

300 DPI is equivalent to 118 DPC (dot per cm? or is it DPCM??)

Some of the prosumer DSLRs have about 122 to 126 pixels/mm. For example, the Canon EOS-1D Mk II has 122, and the Kodak 14n (full frame) has 126.

1 inches = 25.4 millimeters
1 inch/25.4 =1 millimeter
If we want 300 dpi (ppi varies significantly with monitor size), then (300/25.4) =11.8 dpmillimeter, and 75dpi is roughly equal to 2.95 dpmillimeter.
