picture to cartoon

Hello, I'm from Germany so I'm sorry if my english is not as good!

I've got a big Problem! I've got a picture of a person and i want to have a Cartoon, in black and white! how can i do this with photoshop? Or will i need another tool?

I'm from America and sometimes my English isn't so good either :-)

I think the best thing for you is to go to www.dpreview.com. Enter the retouching forum and do a search for cartoon. You'll find several PS options there, and the users are very friendly and helpful.

BTW... Just ignore people like the pitiful pretender.

have u ever used a program to convert your bitmap image into a vector image? so you can make your image nice chunky blocks of shade and colour? this is what you may be after.
FlashMX has a feature called trace-bitmap that is very good. Streamline is a prog. from Adobe expressly for the purpose you want. Corel Draw has a 'tracing feature.. and , so I believe, does Illustrator..

Also try posterise in Photoshop. Or the 'Stamp' filter.. And, lastly, something I do a lot, actually trace over the image by hand with the brushes in a bitmap editor like Photoshop!

There is an excellent tutorial here http://thewebmachine.com/ in the Photoshop section on how to create vector art from a photograph, if you will follow his/her instructions on Vectorize you can then convert the thing to shades of black and white or try the Cartoon tutorial.
