Help with problem in Quick Mask Mode

Hello. For some odd reason I suddenly lost the ability to use Quick Mask mode in full color. The white appears but regardless whether I set the mask color to blue or red or whatever only gray appears as the other color. This of course means that my selection will only be transparent rather than full. Why this has suddenly happened, I don't know. I probably accidentally clicked a parameter somehow and since I don't know which parameter I chose, I cannot undo it. So, in brief, how can I use Quick Mask editing mode so that when I paint a color in it will have 100% effect, not only partial effect? Thanks for assistance.

Look at the Quickmask channel. Is it heavily blurred? What kind of feather do you have set on your selection tool? Check both on the Options Bar and under Select.

If it's not that try resetting preferences.

When you use the paintbrush to paint in QuickMask mode, make sure you are painting solid black, not gray, and that the brush is set to 100% opacity.

Thanks for your reply. After fiddling around I finally got the black/white
pair back, instead of gray/white. This never happened before, in several
years of using PS! And I don't know what I did that changed it. I took your
advice about feathering, etc. but that didn't change it. But thanks for your
reply; you got me fiddling with the menu again.
