Ninja Noise 1.1

I was just considering downloading the Ninja 1.1. noise reduction program.

I am a bit confused as to which program to buy: the less expensive one only covers the 8bit images. The Pro covers the 16bit images.

I presently work with PS 7 and will soon go for the Photoshop CS which I understand will allow me to work with 16 bit images.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which one to go for and how difficult this Ninja would be since I am a Photoshop beginner?

If you want to work in 16 bits and/or do batch processing, get the pro version. What Photoshop 7 can do has nothing to do with it, as long as you have not changed the photo to 8 bits in Photoshop before processing it in Noise Ninja.

BTW, aside from features there is always the question of upgrading. And chances are the Pro version will be getting all the best new features. So that is something to consider too.

Also I would like to educate myself on 8 bit and 16 bit images: my monitor is set for 16bit High color. The image mode in my pictures (which I import form a digital camera - 5 mp lots of pixels) is checked usually at 8 bit which I assume is photoshop default mode.

When I work with layers it shows 16 bits image mode. Should I check the image mode at 16 before working on my pictures?

As I said I am a new and the manual at times confuses me.

You should set it to 24-bit for the best display. You aren't getting nearly as many colors as you should.

In general, you get higher quality results by working in the 16-bit modes but you pay for that with slower computations and greater demands on your Scratch Disk.

I have heard good things about Ninja, but I use Neat Image. Its latest version supports Photoshop CS, although I am still using Photoshop 7 because I haven't upgraded to WinXP yet. You might want to download and try the demo of Neat Image. I find it indispensible, particularly for images that came from a digital source. You can learn more about Neat Image by exploring at:

I second Burton's recommendation of NeatImage. NeatImage is very cool and does and incredible job. Saved my butt a couple of times.

Hi Burton: thank you so much for your neat explanation. I now understand the bit color depth. My husband takes his digital images with an Olympus E 20 and processes them with PS 7.

I do the computer part but in order to do this I need to understand PS and how it works. I plan to upload some of his pictures soon and I will post the site for you guys to review and feedback.
