When I create new text, nothing shows up even when I put it on font size 72 and magnified 1600% the only thing visible were boxes where the letters should be. This is using fonts such as times new roman. Though if I open an old image, I can edit the text, fine. I'm using Photoshop 7 and Windows XP.

have you checked image resolution (image> image size)? make sure it's set to something like 72ppi for screen work or 300ppi for printing. barring that, reset your prefrences per the procedure in the FAQ section of the forum.

Ok I've deleted the file, but the font thing is still not fixed. Maybe I should try reinstalling it...or maybe I'll try to free up more RAM (if that has anything to do with it).

either you're missing something or we're not getting all the info... what do you think? can you give us some more info? is in only some fonts that don't work? do other fonts work?
when you say file> new, what's the ppi setting?
did you get the dialog box when deleting the prefs? it should say something like "are you sure you want to reset photoshop's settings?"

Yes it asked me that and I said yes. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and now everything seems to be working again.
But I got an error in the begining:
"You currently have Adobe Photoshop's primary Scratch and Windows' primary paging file on the same volume, which can result in reduced performance. It is recommended that you set Adobe Photoshops's primary scratch volume to be on a different volume, preferable on a different physical drive."
I've read the FAQ on what to do if your scratch drive is full, but I haven't had any problems with that yet. Thanks!

Great! BTW, that's no an error, it's just informational. If it doesn't go away by itself the next time you start photoshop, go into edit> prefrences> memory and scratch disks and change the first scrath disk from "Startup" to a drive letter (C:\ if you only have 1 hard drive).
