an auto-feather around my selections, why?

hey all

i'm not sure what happened
but

for some reason - when i just the rectangle marquee tool - it doesn't do perfect rectangles - it seems like it takes out corners & creates feather effects - and then when i try to delete i just makes a fuzzy sort of effect

must have accidentaly turned some feature on

has anyone encountered this before? what is it? can't seem to select single pixels either

for some reason i always figure my problem out after i post the question - even tho its been buggin me for a couple of days :)

but yeah, in the top left of my main interface window i see the auto-feather box - i had it set to 2
