Default New Doc Sizes

CS seems to have changed the file format to include non-std characters and make it not a basic text file.

Is it still possible to edit the Default New Doc Sizes docuemtn to get rid of the American and NTSC sizes that no one in their right mind ever needs to use, change the order to somethnig useful and add the ones that I DO want to use???

And if not WHY?????

Not so. The file should have no non-text characters in it.

Are you sure you haven't saved it from a word procesor rather than a plain text editor?

When I opened the file in Notepad it is full of little boxes where ( I presume) carriage returns should be

save it in notepad as plain text to a temp file. then reopen it. that should strip any strange chars from it.

Len - in CS it can contain some non text characters.

In the new dialog, use the Save and Delete Preset buttons instead of editing the file by hand.

OK. Can you expand on that at all?

In what circumstances will non-text characters be created? I ask as the file on this machine is free of such characters (and has been edited)

And after such a superb feature previously why can "I" not have some control over what presets I want to use here. Again I have no use for any NTSC sizes nor actually any of the exotic print sizes as all my work is for screen and video. Why do I have to have "YOUR" order of things. The idea of providing a tool which we come to appreciate then take it away does seem more than a little over parented if you dont mind me saying.

And the save to a text file workaround doesnt work here either........

You can delete and add presets via the new dialog, just like everyone else.

The file is unicode characters, not ASCII (although we can read the old ASCII format).

I think that's what they meant - you can't use your old ASCII based editor on it.

What I cant do via the dialogue box is to sort the order of the new sizes as I want them or to amend default sizes or information, like for example turning the backgoround black or adding guides, say to the A4 size
Any new presets that you add do not turn up inside the default docs file, so where are they stored And if you edit the file with a unicode text editir then ALL of the default sizes disappear altogether.

Try making copies of the default sizes, then edit.
