I am using Photoshop 7.0.1 and I have been trying to figure out how to vary the opacity of a selection within a layer rather than varying the opacity of the entire layer. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

make a selection, copy and paste to it’s own layer. from there there are several things you can do. for full opacity adjustments, use the opacity and fill sliders in the layer palette. for edge transparency, add a layer mask. add a gaussian blur to the layer mask, tighten or loosen the edge opacity (aka feathering) by applying levels to the layer mask.
