Best monitor for graphics

CRT or LCD. I have $2000 and I'm very picky as far as image quality is concerned. That's why I can't decide on my own. I would appreciate your input, folks, based on your experience. Thank you

Sergi, I have a Sony Artisan (CRT) and to me the on screen colors are beautiful but then I never owned an LCD to compare. The main reason I bought the Artisan is that it came with its own built in monitor calibration unit which is simple and fast to use.
I'm not into graphics but I'm into Photoshop and photography and the color matches I get between my monitor and printer output are really great.
You will also be using a good chunk of the $2000 you have available for a monitor on the Artisan. Andrew

What are you doing giving advice to go to a Mac screen for a Windows forum? Is it possible to install a Mac panel on a PC?

I think a very good LCD monitor for PC is LaCie Photon LCD or the Viewsonic VP201

I have just switched to a Iiyama ProLite H540S 21.3inch TFT monitor – runs at 1600x1200 60Hz. I was going to setup a dual monitor system with my old Iiyama 21” CRT but the TFT looked so much better the CRT is now in a cupboard as an emergency backup.

But if you are thinking of a TFT try to see the actual model you intend to purchase first. A colleague was impressed by a Viewsonic VG800 at work and decided to order a VG500 for home – he is now trying to get a refund, Different models from the same manufactures series can have very different performances.

LCDs appear crisper and sharper, but the effect is misleading. When you compare to the images you print off at the end of the day the CRT is much cleaner. I bought, tested and returned 3 LCD displays and finally settled on a Viewsonic 19" VX900 LCD as a secondary display for my files and kept using my 21" Sony Trinitron monitor for the actual image work. LCDs "look" great, but again, it's only because they have higher contrast, which, just like in Photoshop, will mask details in your images.
