TGA broken in Photoshop Cs...

For some reason my TGA's have lost their alpha channels when save and open seems to be 32bit but its showing a white background. However in Photoshop7 i just had to file save as check 32bit and the image had alpha channels, PNG saves perfectly but PHotoshop CS does not seem to know Alpha blended with TGA.

Reinstalled many times but had to go back to Photoshop 7 due to the fact TGA's work there, is there settings im missing with Photoshop CS that require alpha channels to work?

You're confusing alpha channels and transparency.

In CS, we went back to using alpha channels with TGA because too many users didn't understand transparency. (same as the TGA update from Photoshop 7.0.1)

PNG continues to use transparency.

Well see i work with XP Visual Styles and it requires 32bit transparent TGA's to work, and if they are not transparent like it works in Photoshop 7, the transparent sections will show up white.

As i liked the old way as you could say TGA works just like a PNG, so this is normal for CS not to view TGA with transparent parts like as if you were working with a PNG?

Yes, that is normal.

Again, too many TGA users didn't understand transparency, so we had to change it back....

Why not make in an option, since users have different requirements?

Chris,

You keep saying users didn't understand. That is a little disingenuous. It was all of the user's apps that suddenly stopped working properly with TGA, not a lack of understanding. I would personally prefer transparency instead of alpha with TGA but not if all my apps couldn't use it...

Brad - the other app doesn't care a bit.

It's an 8 bit channel either way.

But how the user INTERACTS with it is different.

Mathias -- because they didn't want a dialog at open and another one at save....
