I am using Photoshop 7.0 for Windows. I need to turn jpeg images into targa format with a transparent background. Using Photoshop CS version 8.0 I can successfully accomplish this by doing the following. I use the magic wand to select the background. Then save the selection as channel. Then do a "Save As" targa format with "Alpha Channels" selected in the SAVE OPTIONS and save as a 32 bit. This produces the image I need.

When I try to do the same thing in Photoshop 7.0 when I do the "Save As" the only way to get the "Alpha Channels" selected is to unselect "As Copy" which then shows "Alpha Channels" dimmed but with a check mark. It lets me save the image. The alpha 1 channel is still in the channels list. When I try to close the image I get the following message;

"…the tga image has not been saved completely because the current file format does not support all the features of your document. Would you like to save the document in a format that supports all it’s features?"

It doesn’t matter whether I answer YES or NO. The Alpha 1 channel is gone.

My question: How do I save a targa 32 bit image with alpha channels.

In CS, we went back to using Targa with alpha channels only (because too many users were confused by transparency).
