How create a rope effect around a picture

I help a friend with her potter biz ads. She gave me a layout to do using a rope effect in an oval shape surrounding the ad . Can someone help me figure out how to approach doing this?

Should I use illustrator? Can I draw a shape with the pen tool and then turn the outline of the shape into rope. But where do I get the rope to start with?

Or do I make a piece of rope and then string it end to end around the shape? But how do I do this?

This seems like a common kind of problem to solve but I have never done it before so am stumped what techniques to use.

Thanks, Dale

Have you tried clip art in Word?

Clip art in Publisher?

other DTP applications?

ps - you may wish to change your login name and details

Your email address (if it is yours and not someone else's) has been compromised by using it in a news group

I understand that some people may use it for spamming, so it will be interesting to see if the spam level increases

I mention this to be helpful :-)

A piece of software which will do exactly what you want, and is free, is available fro Microsoft. It's Expression (which Microsoft bought fro Creature House in 2003). A lot of the graphics people who were around in the Nineties will probably remember it - it could do a lot of things no other software was capable of and still has some tricks that others don't.

Anyway, it's a version 3 beta but it works and is a useful tool. You'll find it at:

http://www.microsoft.com/products/expression/default.asp?pg= home

You do have to sign up for it and it is a 53Mb download, but it's worth every penny ;-)

Hmmm - this is fun!

Note to self: it looks like an Intuos pen/pad/mouse is a must

You could make the twisted path in Illustrator save the path then import to PS. I would create a new layer for each path then apply some bevel, shadow, and texture style.

Dale,
I sent you another e-mail. It bounced because of a spam filter you have. Please contact me direct off of the newsgroup.
