Chromatic Aberration

Folks,

I've been searching for, but haven't found a suitable chromatic aberration filter to use with my Canon s60 images (plus others). I'm currently using Paint Shop Pro and the new release 9 includes such a filter (of which I've downloaded a trail version). However, my wife wants to switch back to Photo Shop (we've had several years experience with a version 5.0). We would likely select Photo Shop Elements 3.0.

Is there stand alone software available to do CA corrections. I know there are some Photo Shop plugins, but many have caveats that they are not compatible with Elements.

I'm confused by your reply. I'm looking for a "chromatic aberration" filter and I can't find anything in the "Neat Image" documentation that applies to this. Also are you suggesting that the digital imaging noise reduction algorithms in PSP 9.0 and PSE 3.0 are not sufficient and I should plan on the extra cost of a NI plugin?

Nope psp has what will cost you a lot more just for the ability to match it but as for Chromatic Aberration Psp Leads once again

Ps Elements has neither and its big brother Is not much better

Look at the free panorama tools. It can be run as a stand alone or a plugin. It will correct CA as well as barrel, pincushion and lots of other things. Do a web search for a site and for details on how to use it.

Not wanting to speak for Trev, but what I got from his reply is that he believes Paint Shop Pro 9 has a few things that make it superior to Photoshop and Photoshop Elements for certain purposes, among them chromatic aberration filtering.

I just googled for "chromatic aberration filter" and found -- well, I think I'll let you do that. I'd already made a del.icio.us bookmark for the panorama tools (mentioned in "rtf's photo tricks"), but I haven't used them yet. They sound fascinating.

Thanks for all the help and pointers to tools for CA. I found the pano tools and most of them look interesting for quite a number of reasons. I enjoy the mathematical play and think this should be interesting from a number of perspectives.

I've also got PSP9 working on my system (finally - too many other resources being utilized) and so I have a very convenient CA solution available.

Thanks again. The application of CA corrections to my Canon S60 images can really make a noticeable difference. A good deal of my photography is in high contrast situations, not by choice but usually that's the only time of day available for my business travel photography.

It's superior if you believe that every problem needs a filter to solve it, yes. It's not difficult to remove CA in Photoshop using the standard tools. BTW, Photoshop CS has the ability to remove CA directly while opening RAW files with CameraRAW.
