Toolbox functions acting backwards or only partially

Every time I use my Zoom tool, it defaults to "-" and not "+". Everytime I attempt to use the crop tool, I only get the 4 corners for adjustment, not he sides. Also, I can not expand my crop selection beyond the bounds of an exact square – no rectanglar selections!

I’ve uninstalled Photoshop, and reinstalled it and nothing has changed.

How can I fix this problem?

You, my friend, need to look up to the Options Bar at the top of your screen and experiment with the various buttons and settings for every tool.

If you need deeper explanations of what everything does, please consult your manual.

Don’t have a manual? Look for the Help files inside your Photoshop folder. View these in a web browser. There is also the PS7 User Guide in PDF form in there as well. Can’t find ’em? They’re on the CD, if you didn’t install them.
