A place to start is http://www.littlecms.com/

There are related links that you'll find there which
when followed will find other associated interesting
software utilities and the like.

There are a couple of free downloads at curvemeister:

http://www.curvemeister.com/tutorials/LabMeter/index.htm - uses Photoshop's gamut warning feature to compare the gamuts of selected profiles at different Lab lightness values.

http://www.curvemeister.com/downloads/profileplotter/index.h tm - plots the tone response curve of the selected profile. This is the RGB curve resulting from profiling a neutral 256 step ramp.

Hi -
have a look at
http://www.ddisoftware.com/shopping/index.html
for "Profile Prism". I understood that you would like to make your own profiles.

Any software that tries to use a scanner to generate printer profiles will not generate good profiles. Its the old garbage in -- garbage out problem.

The only way to generate printer profiles is to bite the bullet and get a spectrophotometer and related software (many $$$).

Get a copy of Bruec Fraser's book on color management and learn.

You may want to read the following, written by someone who switched from Profile Prism to a spectrophotometer-based system:

Conclusions: Congrats Mike on a job well done. Your $79 (or double it for the cost of an Lide80 scanner)profiles now rival spectrophotmeter based profiles costing 20 times more.
