As I proceed with remapping Photobars for Photoshop CS, I have been privvy to some snapshots of the Photoshop CS menu structure but not the actual beta release. I have noticed that "Group With Previous" and "Ungroup" are no longer in the Layer menu (at least not in the release candidate's menu), having been replaced by "Create Clipping Mask" and "Release Clipping Mask". My only thought as to the whereabouts of the grouping commands is that maybe they've been integrated into the Options bar. I'm also missing snapshots of three menus (Type, Align Linked and Distribute Linked) but wouldn't expect them to contain any grouping commands. Could someone clarify what happened to these two commands and, if they are in the retail release's menus, where are they specifically?
Thanks,
Daryl

In PS7 Grouping and Ungrouping were sometimes referred to as "Clipping Groups" were a layer could act as a Mask for another layer.
The Grouping commands have been replaced with terminology that more accurately reflects their use Create Clipping Mask" and "Release Clipping Mask"
Hope that helps!

Thanks Ian...I guess that reflects how rarely I actually used the commands.

It's all still the same keyboard shortcuts right?

Robert,
Remember shortcuts are user programmable now. CTRL+G doesn't really fit in with the term clipping mask, but they are running out of options so I am guessing that it is the same.

I don't know about those commands but other commands have had their shortcuts changed. A big one for me is Save As. I guess it is a good thing we can configure what we want. I want it like it was in 7. There are others short cuts too that have changed.

If Adobe is changing around the keyboard shortcuts much with PS CS, it would be nice if they'd provide a loadable file for the keyboard customizations that provides the PS7 keyboard shortcuts so that users who prefer the PS7 shortcuts don't have to recreate that themselves. Whether or not they've already done that and provided the appropriate file on the PS CS CD I don't know. If they don't, it wouldn't suprise me if someone gets industrious and provides such a file themself to the user community.

I don't know. I get the feeling the beta I was sent isn't the complete package. The software is there, but goodies and such I think aren't.
So far the only shortcut change that has got me miffed is the one for Save As. I guess I am going to have to remap it. I don't know what Adobe changed shortcuts. With the ability to change them themselves it should have been left up to the users to reconfigure. That way people that didn't want, need or give a hoot about assigning their own shortcuts didn't have to fool with it.
Another example of Adobe off doing something without thinking it through.
