I am getting the same caution message every time I open a photoshop document with text layers . The message reads - "Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output. Do you want to update now?" When I click yes - it moves all of the text layers and I must try to put them back where they should be.
Then I re-save and when I open again - I have to go through the same process. If I click no - I get a caution symbol next to each text layer.
How can I solve this problem?

How can I solve this problem?
By opening the file using the same version of Photoshop that created it and making sure that the proper fonts are installed.

I created it on my machine with the same version of Photoshop and with my fonts. Even if it was a different version of Photoshop that created the original, which is wasn't, once I updated and saved it - shouldn't it stay updated and saved

Yes, it should. Seems like an odd problem. As a long shot, try trashing your prefs and see if that helps.

How does one trash his preferences

Hold down the ctrl+shift+alt keys when you launch the program. When asked if you want to delete the PS setting file (or something like that) say yes.
Note that this will reset Photoshop back to factory defaults.

I begin by calling mine derogatory names...
When starting PS, hi tthe Shift+Ctrl+Alt keys before the splash screen opens, and you will get a message asking if you want to delte prefs,, click yes.

Thanks,
But that did not seem to work either

Did you get the dialogue box? If not, it is because you were not fast enough on the Shift+Ctrl+Alt... it can be tricky.

No,I got the dialog box and I trashed the preferences.
But it did not make my problem go away, unfortunately.

Stephen,
In the Layers palette, are the text layer icons showing up yellow?
If so, that indicates those layers are using a font no longer active on your system. Until you either insatll the font, or specidically change it for each text layer, then no matter how many times you save, the message will still come up.
