I have never felt anything but respect toward you and the information you provide here, Gernot, but today, in response to this, I'll tell you that you're so full of beans that your pants are split at the seams.

Why? (Cripes, this is a tired argument, and I figured you'd be smart enough to understand it. But I'll reiterate again, to remind you and for the benefit of everyone who never even considered it):1 Speaking for myself, I have had a variation of the nickname "Phos" for almost 35 of my 48 years. I answer to that as much as anything. It ISwho I am, to hundreds of people, both online and in meatspace.

2 What bearing does a User name have on the quality of knowledge offered? NONE. ZERO. Would you level a similar complaint against Bono (Paul Hewson)? or Sting (Gordon Sumner)? or Engelbert Humperdinck (Arnold George Dorsey)? or John Wayne (Marion Morrison)? or any of a bazillion other folks who choose to use a nmae other than their given birth certificate name? It's preposterous.

3 Again, speaking only for myself (though I'll bet Buko, and many others will agree), I conduct myself EXACTLY the same way under the screen name I have been using for close to 10 years as I would if I were using my given birth certificate name. I don't "hide" behind an alias--I proudly promote "Phos" or "Phosphor" as an aspect of my personal branding, and I stand by everything I write, say and do under that persona.

4 Would you be happier to see me posting as "Franz Kindler" (my barber's name when I was a little kid) or "Paul Baum" (One of my favorite teachers ever, from 5th grade), or "Bob Collins" (My best friend since 1968)? Or any other name which sounds "normal?" What difference would it make? How would you know if I was actually named that, anyway? How do I know your name is really Gernot Hoffmann? Sure, I could do an extensive Google search, and connect all the dots, but why bother? I don't give a crap. Good info is good info.

5 There are any number of good reasons why a person would choose not to use their real name. I'll let you work them out for yourself. I know you have the facility to do so.Seriously, I am dumbfounded that you would even proffer such a straw complaint. It's ridiculous to its core.

Maybe you don't get around as much as some of us here. Maybe you've missed the many posts that Buko and I and many other "nom de netters" have written up as instruction for newcomers.

If you have a problem with the style of information delivery, then focus your commentary on that, and not the content.
