Have you tried deleting preferences? (as explained in the FAQ)
Yes, thank you for the kind suggestion. I tried that. NO help. It loads just fine and when finished I can’t click anything, tools/file/ nothing. I have to hit ctl/alt/delete and it says Photoshop not respond and then quit the program.
Image Ready 7.0 works just fine and I can _jump_ to Photoshop, but of course when I get there it’s just as dead as ever.
I hope this additional information will let someone help me. Thanks
did you get the dialog box asking if you want to reset your photoshop settings when resetting your prefrences? if you didn’t see the box (or manually delete the prefrences file) they’re not reset.
see this faq topic:

Thanks Dave, yes I got the little box, and have done it more then once. Whaaaa! ? thanks for the idea and your time.
ok. where are you freezing? on the splash screen? what’s the last thing you see? (i.e. sorting fonts, loading plugins, etc.) or do you actually get into photoshop? if in photoshop what do you do to make it lock? (i.e. click wth marquee tool or something)?
Again Thank you Dave-
The program fully loads. It load smoothly no, hang. However that’s where the trouble begins. My cursor will move but I can’t click a thing…can’t open any of the dialog boxes [file-help-edit etc.] Just dead. <?>
I’ve used Photoshop since 4.5, I have Illustrator on here, Go-Live and Photoshop 6.0. I’m at a loss to what it could be. The rest of my pc is operating normally.
is it trying to do something? like looking for a network share that’s not there or maybe contacting adobe for updates and you’re firewall is blocking it? if you wait for a while (more than a few minutes) does it EVER come back? say like 5 mins. or so?
Nope, no hard drive activity at all. Just stays as described fully loaded, all tool, and windows are there. I have let it sit up through dinner..still nothing. Everything appears normal just looking at it. I just think it’s odd that Image Ready works. I guess that would mean that what ever the trouble it’s with Photoshop. I’ve had this version on here since 7.0 came out. I am also able to load the 7.01 update just fine, but again when I load Photoshop after the update it remains frozen in time. Three finger salute is the only exit.
hmm… only other thing I can think of… what kind of printer do you have hooked up. there’s a bug in some drivers that can lock or crash ps because they leave the system in an "invalid" state. not sure this applies here though. if you want to try it, dl the postscript printer driver from adobe’s download area and set it as your default printer (doesn’t matter that it doesn’t exist) and try again.
it really sounds like a prefrences thing though. I’m suprised that didn’t work…
