To get serious here – I’m guessing that you wish to know whether there are tools in PS that can create vectors from existing raster images, for example using threshold, find-edges, etc.. and the answer is No.

However, all is not lost. If you want to explore a way to convert raser to vector, please look at Adobe’s Streamline product. I think you can still get a free trial download. Please try it and we can discuss it further once you see how it works – or not.

Hey I’ve almost mastered vectoring images using the pen tool, I’m = wondering if there is a faster way such as threshold / etc.

First, please turn off HTML posting in your news reader program. It is not considered appropriate to post in newsgroups using HTML; many people who might otherwise be willing to help you will quite likely ignore you, or even killfile you, if you post in newsgroups using HTML.

To answer your question:

Commands such as Threshold do not create vector objects. They simply work with pixels. Running a command such as Threshold on a pixel image does not change it into a vector image.

It is possible to turn a selection into a path; you do this by using the "Create Work Path" command from the Paths palette flyout menu. However, the path that is created is quite poor. If good results are important to you, build your path by hand using the Pen tool. There really is no high-quality shortcut; creating good vector objects requires a human eye and a human brain.

Actually you can make a path from a selection.

To do

create a selection – use any tool you want magic wand, rectangle, freeform tool, etc

with the selection active, click on the Paths tab

select "make a working path" – your selection is now a path

Yes, that’s a good way to go about it. I stand corrected as it regards using Photoshop-Only.

The path you get this way is quite crude and sloppy, and if your goal is to use the path for, say, a clipping path, the results will be decidedly inferior.

Those linked images have been created in Illustrator or another vector imaging package, not photoshop.

The images would have been placed into a vector application and then used as a template and traced over.

Yes it is. There are filters in many news servers that will drop any articles posted with html or encoded attachments. If you post with html, you may not reach the one (Hi TheOne) person who can answer your vital question.

They look very much like the outcome vectorizing photographic images in Adobe Streamline, then colored in something like Illustrator. Whomever did it (if they did it that way) has a good handle on Streamline’s parameters and features.
