Does "Save for Web" affect the .psd file it comes from?

I notice that if I open up one of my .psd files, then use the "Save for Web" feature to kick out a web
copy, upon closing the .psd file I am asked if I would like to save the changes. Since I didn’t make any
intentional changes, this has me rather perplexed.

What effect does using "Save for Web" have on the original .psd file?

Thanks for any insight you can provide me on this,

Jon

It doesn’t change anything, but you get the dialog anyway. Just say no.

Aye, thanks for the information, Ed; I’ll continue to do just that (but won’t get too concerned if I hit
‘yes’ instead).

You’re way better off hitting yes, and it’s a keystroke to boot. Only if you think you’ve made a mistake would it be a great idea to hit no.

I disagree. Why is it "way better" aside from only being a keystroke? If you hit No you know the file is the same as it was to begin with no matter what. If it’s a jpeg especially you do not want to resave. —
